Job Title: Financial Reporting Manager 
Department: RMIC/Financial Services 
Location: Winston-Salem, NC 

 

   

Statement of Position:

In general, the Financial Reporting Manager will: 

Oversee all internal and external financial reporting functions and activities ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

Formulate, implement, and monitor applicable accounting policies, procedures, and practices.

 

Primary Duties of the Position (80-85%):

  • Coordination, supervision, and detailed review of monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reports and filings, including, but not limited to:

ORI standard reporting

NAIC filings

ORI ad hoc reporting requests

Policyholder’s report

Regulatory filings

Rating agency reporting

Audited statutory statements

Audited GAAP statement

Quarterly management reporting

 

 

 

  • Coordination, supervision and review of quarterly variance analysis and other ad hoc analysis as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with control objectives as stated in RMIC’s Sarbanes-Oxley documentation. 
  • Perform or supervise and review accounting research as needed and formulate and document appropriate accounting position.
  • Training, coaching, and leadership of Financial Reporting staff, including all personnel functions.

 Other Duties of the Position (15-20%):

  • Assist the Financial Operations Manager in the coordination of external financial reviews/audits from internal audit; external independent auditors; Insurance Department Examiners; rating agency analysts; and other similar entities. Assist Financial Operations Manager in preparing analyses and correspondence to the entities noted above.
  • Work closely with General Accounting Manager to coordinate financial reporting activities.
  • Participate in departmental and corporate projects as requested by the Financial Operations Manager.

 Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree - Accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a financial reporting function.
  • Relevant supervisory/management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Training:

  • Proficient in the use of general accounting and reporting software applications and the use of PC based products such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Previous experience with accounting and reporting in an insurance company and extensive knowledge of statutory accounting principles is highly desirable.
